Review: Dirty Sexy Money, Series One

Last night I watched the final episode of Dirty Sexy Money, a show launched here in the UK with much hype, but one which unfortunately did not live up to expectations. Personally I don’t think it was as rancid as the critics here in the UK would have us believe, but it could use a bit of work.

The problem I think with Dirty Sexy Money (DSM) is that it was too much like one of those weekly glossy magazines like Heat, it was all gloss and not enough substance. It has a wonderful group of actors in the cast but the scripts and the show’s directors never challenge them. The show was also set up with a wonderful storyline, working for a family who you think might have killed your father, but the creators of the show never exploited this storyline to any dramatic effect… in fact the entire mystery behind who might have killed Nick’s father just became dull after a couple of episodes.

All is not lost though with DSM, even though the viewing figures dropped both here and in the US week after week, it seems that ABC is going to give it another season… I just hope that the creators of the show rub off some of the gloss, and give us loyal viewers more reason to watch week after week.
