I’d Do Anything… the winner.
So it is all over. The singing, the dancing, the funny looks from Andrew Lloyd Webber and the purvey looks from Barry Humphries (he’s the male version of Dame Edna, but twice as creepy). Hell even the crying is now finished, because the winner has been announced…
…and the winner was…
Jodie!
Personally I was a bit surprised, and a bit disappointed. I was firmly behind Samantha, I thought she was truly the most talented one of the series, and I am sure she will get work from the show even though she didn’t win it. My second choice would have been Jessie the cutie pie from Ireland. I liked her because she just kept coming back week after week, she survived the sing-offs and the criticism, and did it all with the cutest looks on the show. The public though disagreed with me and chose Jodie, the full-figured girl from Blackpool, the homegrown talent who always had to play the male roles in her school plays (she went to an all girl school).
When she won the show I have to admit I was a bit disappointed, but after seeing her this week on The Graham Norton Show, I have to say I warmed up to her. She really seemed like a genuine nice person, and even though she has shot to fame over the last week because of her win, she still seems pretty down to earth, and she even admitted to having a bit of pee escape during her celebration of jumping up and down… something that has probably happened to lots of people celebrating a victory, but pissing yourself is something you normally keep private, or at least among just friends… it isn’t something I would talk about on national TV anyhow, but I think it was that confession that made me see her as somebody who I would love to spend some time with, even if that time is just in the back of a darkened theatre watching her strut her stuff in Oliver… and admittedly she does have a fantastic set of pipes.
I still would have loved to have seen Samantha treading the boards, but I can now admit that I am over my disappointment and can hand on heart congratulate Jodie.
All the best Jodie… I wish you all the best for your future in the West End and beyond!
