Coronation Street babe challenge part 2 – The Mums

Sunday, November 1, 2009 Wesley Leave a comment

Part two of our Coronation Street Challenge of the Babes sees two of the cobbles most famous mothers battle head-to-head. Liz McDonald is pitted against Janice Battersby.

I know it is not much of a battle for both of these gals have probably seen better days, but you know what they say “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure” so lets get ready to rumble!

OK so where to begin? Liz McDonald has a big mouth and a pair of assets equally as large, and she runs a pub, but other than that she is not the kind of woman you would want to be lumbered with. She is loud, not exactly bright and a bit obstinate.

Janice on the other hand doesn’t even have the breasts to fall back on, nor does she own a pub. In fact as this is typed the team here at Outside the Box is finding anything that would make a man want to spend any time with the loud-mouthed girl from a knicker factory. So with this in mind, we have to find Liz McDonald the winner… by default I guess!

Coronation Street babe challenge Part 1 – The Wallflowers

Coronation Street is the country’s best loved soap, and one of the world’s most famous television show. Women love it because, well because it is a soap opera, but why do men continue to tune in five times a week?

Probably partly because of the pressure put on them by their respective other halves, but secretly it is to admire the babes.

So the experts here at Outside the Box has decided to put the babes up against each other head to head to find out who is the best of the babes on the street.

Challenge 1 – Fiz Stape nee Brown v Molly Dobbs

Fiz won’t win many awards in the looks department. In fact she is more Cabbage Patch doll than Barbie, and her hair normally looks like something birds would nest in. However Fiz is loyal, kind and pretty level-headed. Unfortunately she also has an annoying attraction towards dweeby, psychos who are not only boring but also who kidnaps young girls. Oh yeah and she is married to the aforementioned dweeb as well.

Molly also is no beauty queen, but in recent months she has become more attractive… Perhaps from all the work-outs she has had. She seems to be slowly transforming into a ‘girl-next-door type who you wouldn’t be embarrassed to be seen with in public. Sadly though Molly is not only married, but she has a boyfriend on the side, which all adds up to the fact that she cannot be trusted.

VERDICT:

Round one was difficult. Both of these girls have some bad points and both have some good ones. Fiz is the more trustworthy, but Molly is transforming into a hottie. Both are already married, but with Molly we only have to worry about Tyrone and Kevin coming after us, with Fiz we have an evil psycho ex-teacher to deal with. So with that in mind, Outside the Box has to go with Molly Dobbs. Sorry Fiz!

Things to do this week

Tuesday, October 27, 2009 Wesley Leave a comment

to-do-list-padOK, I have a week off, and in normal fashion there is nothing on the box to watch. Just my luck!

Still no fear here as I have loads of stuff recorded, so here is my to do list for the week:

  1. Build up the nerve to finally watch Defying Gravity.
  2. Watch the last few episodes of Waking the Dead.
  3. Find five hours to watch Criminal Justice.
  4. Catch-up with Chuck and Coronation Street.
  5. Some laundry and other boring stuff, then maybe watch a DVD, listen to some CDs and bore you all with blog entries of my exploits!

Corry’s Blanche ’seriously ill’ – Yahoo! TV UK

Outside the Box is a big Coronation Street fan, and my favourite character is the Queen of the in-appropriate comment Blanche. So it comes with great sadness to learn that the actress who brings one of the streets best loved character to life, Maggie Jones is very ill!

Outside the Box wishes her a very speedy recovery and I hope to see her back on the cobbles very soon.

Coronation Street actress Maggie Jones is seriously ill in hospital after major surgery.

Maggie, 75, who plays battle-axe Blanche Hunt in the ITV soap, had an operation on Saturday and remains in hospital in Salford, Greater Manchester.

She is said to be “seriously ill” but no details are being released on the type of operation, although the actress did not rupture her spleen in a fall, as has previously been reported, a spokeswoman said.

Maggie, who is a widow, has been written out of all immediate scenes, the spokeswoman added.

“We are all hoping and wishing the best for Maggie, who is much loved by everyone at Coronation Street,” she said.

She was ruled out of filming for several weeks last April when she hurt her knee and shoulder during a fall.

Famous for her withering put-downs and trademark scowl, Blanche is one of the show’s most popular characters.

ALL THE SMALL THINGS; Is this the worst show on TV?

Thursday, April 9, 2009 Wesley 1 comment

The other night I accidentally switched to BBC1 and caught the last fifteen minutes of their new show All the Small Things. The trauma of my experience is still wearing off!

For those of you who have been fortunate enough never to have this show invade your brains, take this as a warning; AVOID IT LIKE THE PLAGUE!

Described by the BBC Press Office as an “all-singing series”, All the Small Things is easily the worst show I have seen this year. Think of it as High School Musical goes to Church or Britannia High goes to Sunday School! Or even better, think of the worst show you have seen in the last year or so, and picture the cast singing, and then add that floppy haired kid from Coronation Street, Richard ‘I wanna be a popstar’ Fleeshman.

Second Opinion:

From The Guardian.co.uk:

All The Small Things occasionally showed signs of thickening into a nourishing soup – a lovely scene between Pearson and Lancashire in the bedroom here, a subtle evocation of the dark side of ambition and the advantages of amateurism there, and a turn by Roy Barraclough as the vicar just for the fun of it. But then it would become rapidly diluted by watery nonsense. Things may improve next week. At the very least, the trailers promise that Clifford, the choir’s simpleton, will get to sing. As he is played by Clive Rowe, this holds no guppy terrors, only delight.

Soapbox… Coronation Street the video game?

Saturday, February 14, 2009 Wesley Leave a comment

soapbox1I have a confession; Coronation Street is my favourite show on TV. There is just something about it that appeals to me – perhaps the dodgy acting, the far out story lines, or the funny bits. More then likely though it is a combination of them all. Occasionally though there comes a character to the show that just makes me wish I was Tony Gordon; a man capable of killing the irritants who stroll along the cobbles of Coronation Street.

Well now I may just get the chance to club Norris, or chop Jed Stone to bits, because plans are in the works for Coronation Street the video game!

OK so the picture isn’t the actual game, but seriously there is a Coronation Street based video game being produced for the very popular Nintendo DS game system. Apparently it will allow people to take control of their favourite Coronation Street character and complete a series of missions… I just hope one of them is clubbing Jed Stone like a baby seal!

Soapbox: Gary and Chesney… brothers?

Sunday, January 25, 2009 Wesley Leave a comment

soapbox1Am I the only one who feels that the streets new bad ass Gary Windass looks to much like Chesney to be considered as a tough guy? Maybe the producers will come up with some sort of Gary is Chesney’s long lost brother story line?
